Workshop for Customs and Border Control Officers on Multilateral Environmental Agreements

The Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Culture, through the Support for the Implementation of National Biosafety Framework for Lesotho, funded by United Nations Environment Programme – Global Environment Facility (UNEP/GEF) conducted a workshop for customs and border control officers on Multilateral Environmental Agreements, with the aim to; create awareness on the existing Multilateral Environmental Agreements that Lesotho is a party to and what role customs officers play towards their implementation, explicitly outline and discuss in depth the role and responsibility of customs officers in the implementation of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (CPB) and eliminate illegal movements and/or trade of environmentally sensitive items in and out of Lesotho that are covered by specific international agreements especially the CPB.
