 Maloti Drakensberg Tranfrontier Conservation Project (MDTP)


 The main objectives of the project are:-

  • Bilateral Conservation of Bio-diversity, and natural resource

  • Improvement of tourism and management of World Bank and Lesotho Government

 National Environment Youth Corp (NEYC)


 The main objectives of the project are:-

  • To create employment opportunities and income generation for youth between ages 15 and 24 years

  • To protect and rehabilitate the land.

 Environmental Management for Poverty Reduction (EMPR)

 The main objectives of the project are:-

  • To create employment opportunities and income generation for youth between ages of 15 and 24 years;

  • To protect and rehabilitate the land. This is a two year project which will end in 2004.

 It is sponsored by UNDP and the Government of Lesotho. It is hosted by NES.

 Conserving Mountain Bio-diversity in Southern Lesotho (CMBSL)


 The main objectives of the project are:-

  • Establishment of protected areas which adequately conserve Lesotho’s bio-diversity;

  • Improve natural resource management outside the protected areas

  • Protect Lesotho’s heritage sides

 Capacity Building for Environmental Management (CBEM)


 The main objective of the project are:-

  • Capacity building on environmental issues and aspects to environmental units established in the line Ministries, which have a stake on environment.

 A Service for Environmental Conservation of Bio-diversity and for Sustainable Development


 The main objectives of the project are:-

  • Strengthen national herbaria and botanical gardens by developing geographical information systems.

  • Establish information systems and establish information service of plants of economical value ( pharmaceutical) which are found in at least six countries of the SADC sub-region
     

 Southern Africa Bio-diversity Network (SABONET)


 The main objectives of the project are:-

  • To contribute to natural resources development.

  • Ensure proper record keeping of plant species in Lesotho

  • Improve the herbaria collection in the learning institutions.
     

 National Capacity Self Assessment (NCSA)


 The main objectives of the project are:-

  • To conduct a comprehensive assessment, including an in-depth analysis of Lesotho's existing capacities constraints, needs as well as opportunities as she works to meet her global environmental management obligations in accordance with the Rio Conventions and related international instruments

 Solid Waste Management


 The main objectives of the project are:-

  • To dispose off and manage the solid wastes in an environmentally friendly manner

 Southern Africa Bio-diversity Support Program (SABSP)


 The main objectives of the project are:-

  • To improve cooperation, build capacity and integrate sustainable use of bio-diversity into sub-regional programs- Ten countries have participated in this project, namely, Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

 Management of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPS)


 The main objectives of the project are:-

  • To strengthen national capacity and enhance knowledge and understanding on the management of persistent organic pollutants and their disposal

  • To reach substantial numbers of economically disadvantaged youth in Lesotho

  • To improve access to income to Lesotho Youth with a view to stimulating production, increasing employment and reducing levels of poverty
     

 Zero Emissions Research Initiative (ZERI)


 The main objectives of the project are:-

  • Produce mushrooms for medicinal and consumption purposes.

 It is a five year project ending in 2005 sponsored by UNOPS through UNDP. The project is in its pilot stage where
 National University of Lesotho has provided facilities for research into whether the country can effectively produce
 enough mushrooms for marketing before the idea is sold to farmers.
