Second National BCH Training Workshop

The Department of Environment held the second training workshop on the Biosafety Clearing House (BCH) from 13 to 16 March 2012 for various key stakeholders. The participants were from several institutions such as National University of Lesotho; Customs officials; Departments of Agricultural Research, Health and of Science and Technology; the Consumer Section of the Ministry of Trade; and several NGOs such as the Lesotho Veterinary Council and the Lesotho National Farmers Union.

The main purpose of the training was to provide participants with a clear understanding of procedures for registering biosafety related information and to also introduce the new BCH training materials. The participants developed an action plan for registering biosafety information in the BCH.

The last day was dedicated to the National University of Lesotho to describe in detail the resources and training materials available on the BCH central portal and how they can be integrated into their curricula; and the use of Moodle.

The training was supported by the BCH project manager, Ms. Ileana Lopez, and two regional advisors, Ms. Rachel Shibalira and Ms. Rudo Sagomba. This workshop is funded by the United Nations Environment-Global Environment Facility (UNEP-GEF).
