Department of Environment held the second training workshop
on the Biosafety Clearing House (BCH) from 13 to 16 March
2012 for various key stakeholders. The participants were
from several institutions such as National University of
Lesotho; Customs officials; Departments of Agricultural
Research, Health and of Science and Technology; the Consumer
Section of the Ministry of Trade; and several NGOs such as
the Lesotho Veterinary Council and the Lesotho National
The main purpose of the training was to provide participants
with a clear understanding of procedures for registering
biosafety related information and to also introduce the new
BCH training materials. The participants developed an action
plan for registering biosafety information in the BCH.
The last day was dedicated to the National University of
Lesotho to describe in detail the resources and training
materials available on the BCH central portal and how they
can be integrated into their curricula; and the use of
The training was supported by the BCH project manager, Ms.
Ileana Lopez, and two regional advisors, Ms. Rachel
Shibalira and Ms. Rudo Sagomba. This workshop is funded by
the United Nations Environment-Global Environment Facility (UNEP-GEF).
