Department of Environment held the first national workshop
on the Biosafety Clearing House (BCH) from 25 to 27 January
2012 in Maseru. The workshop was attended by representatives
of the national competent authorities on biosafety. The main
objective of the workshop was to familiarise participants
with the BCH: how to register and search for information on
The workshop was supported by United Nations Environment
Programme under the ‘Continued Enhancement of
Capacity-Building in the Biosafety Clearing House’ project.
The Department will hold two more workshops aimed at
different stakeholder groups, including but not limited to
Agriculture extension officers, Customs officers, Lesotho
Agricultural College, National University of Lesotho, and
farmer and consumer associations.
