This page lists a number of websites of relevance for environmental issues in southern Africa. Two sites deserve  
special attention: the Humanity Development Libraries and Empowerment for African Sustainable Development. For
details see below.

The Africa Institute for the Environmentally Sound Management of Hazardous and Other Wastes
The Africa Institute is the Basel and Stockholm Conventions Regional Centre for all English speaking African counties, It is based in Pretoria, South Africa housed within the Department of Environmental Affairs.  It provides training, capacity building, awareness raising, information exchange, and any other function that member countries may assign to it regarding environmentally sound management of chemicals and hazardous wastes and other wastes: www.africainstitute.info

Humanity Development Libraries (HDL):

Empowerment for African Sustainable Development (EASD): EASD is a private non-profit corporation focussing on the empowerment of African people and institutions operating in the area of environmental management and sustainable development. The web site links up with a very high number of web sites with information about environmental issues in southern Africa. These include e.g. sites with environment policies and documents, state of the environment reporting, environmental organisations, and environment information systems. www.easd.org.za

Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO):

The web site of FAO provides access to information about agriculture, including world-wide statistics. www.fao.org

International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM):

IFOAM web site contains information about organic farming, and links to relevant web sites throughout the

International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED):

“IIED is an independent, non-profit organisation with a mission to promote sustainable patterns of world development through collaborative research, policy studies, consensus building and public information”. www.iied.org

Land Quality Indicators Program (LQI):
